Jim’s Rant For The Day. We’re Moved In!
We are finally moved into our new farm house. After camping out for three weeks we got power Tuesday. The last big piece, the freezer, will be moved in today. All that remains is to have the internet connected after I cut the line and moved the dish 200 yards myself. That is scheduled for Monday.
I told my wife it’s like living in an art mansion with all the heirlooms and memories we collected over 40 years. Antique furniture, pictures and art work, lots of old hurricane lamps and of course my home office of the past 25 years. Today I installed my favorite memory collection item in that office, my New Orleans Suit.
By personality, Betty is a split between a Choleric and a Melancholic. That makes her part John Wayne and part neat freak, introvert and perfectionist. FYI, I am a split between a Choleric and Sanguine (Lucille Ball type). See: Spotting Personalities (page 5 of the Test)
Melancholics tend to hold things in and not show anger until they are about to burst. When they are about to commit suicide they call their lifelong Sanguine buddy (usually from the age of 13) to say goodbye. The Sanguine says “Lets get lunch first.” and three days later the suicidal wakes up calm after getting some combination of stewed, lewd, screwed and tattooed! They are then good to go for another three years or so.
When Betty got that way we would head to Bourbon Street in New Orleans for medicinal purposes. One year we were in a Karaoke bar that honestly had standing room only with shoulders touching everyone. Three 20 year old girls were next to me, with one clearly being a lesbian. We were all watching, laughing and moving to the music.
When one girl wished the lesbian Happy Birthday, I did the same and said “Let me at least pay for the breakfast you are going to need.” I then pushed $20 into her side blue jean’s pocket and then we went back to watching the stage. For the first time ever, Betty acted jealous and poured a giant cup of beer on my head. No one said anything else and we all continued partying. Go figure?
A few weeks later I bought a yellow rain slicker with pants for when I had to feed the chickens in wet weather. I told Betty it was for when we had “corporate meetings in New Orleans.” The slicker has always hung behind my office door to remind Betty that I am ready for the next impromptu New Orleans trip.
I just love all of the memories of our life together. To me it’s all beautiful art.

Great story, Jim! Great that you and Betty complement each other. Congratulations on the move, and on your life of warm memories with your wife.
