In my work life I specialized in going into businesses in trouble as their Financial Controller to turn the business around any way I could. I considered myself as a fireman and loved it. Once things were smooth and calm I put in my notice and looked for another hell hole.
Today the Chairman of Credit Suisse's Board of Directors resigned. His job was to salvage the Switzerland bank that is located in 60 countries, that is reputed to be insolvent and heavy into international money laundering and criminal activity. His already named replacement will be their third Chairman within eight months.
The news article says he resigned because the board discovered he was not personally following their Covid policy. For the second time today I must holler Bullshit! Look folks, I was a local two bit turn-around operator whereas the Credit Suisse Chairman is a world class one. But the game is played the same.
You are called in to do immediate damage control to save the life of the company and its owners’ asses. You are not interfered with or challenged; you are expected to perform a miracle. There is no board in the world that would fire their Prima donna Rain Maker for not wearing his face mask at a party – they wouldn’t care because he was saving their ass.
My guess is he deliberately used that as an excuse because a drug cartel (customer) was threatening to kill him if he didn’t treat them as a customer the way they wanted. So in this case deliberately not following the Covid rules may have saved his life.
