Jim’s Rant For The Day. More Vomiting To Come.

We have all seen the videos of the crowds storming the presidential palace in Shri Lanka. We saw the video of the President running to the navy ship to escape. I am sure we all had our own quiet thoughts while observing.

Late yesterday I saw a posting in a chat room where it was suggested the running President video was from the 60s. My thought was does it matter? At that time the President had already resigned and the country was in ruins. And here we were expected to go down a rabbit hole about a nothing point. What does all of this mean?

I personally feel that by this weekend this scene will play out again. It may not be presidents but will be against officials somewhere. Clif High suggests people will lock officials in their homes and torch them. Again I ask, what does all this mean?

I remind you of the the law professor that told us his feelings about death penalty executions when a student asked. He said most of his life he was against the death penalty. He recalls many nights in the dorm house arguing his viewpoint with others. Ten years after graduation he received a summons to be a witness to an execution. He called the BAR association to remove the summons. It was not removed but he found out a dorm mate now worked for the state in processioning execution appeals. He caused the summons.

The professor got through the execution OK until he got to his car. He then threw up. After that he came to the conclusion that some crimes are so horrible, that like him, society had to throw up what it had seen. He is now in favor of the death penalty.

So too society may act with violence with what will be perceived happened to it, and must throw it up to get it out of the system. No, I will not be surprised. I will understand.
