Jim’s Rant For The Day: Is Clif High Right About The South?

Yesterday Clif said this:

America will Rise again! This time into a revival led by the ‘retained culture’ long dormant in the South, covered with a thick blanket of “Federal oversight”. The Return to Americana, parading out of the South will be magnified, and enlarged by regional flavors into a cacophony of “American Republic, Now, New, Reborn, Rejuvenated, Revived, and Risen”.

Note that “cacophony” is defined as: noise, chatter, clatter, roar.

Why is Clif singling out the south as the avant-garde of the rebirth of the Republic?

Could it be that our history of the cause of the Civil War was blotted out and ultimately focused only on the slavery issue? Could it be that the umbrella cause was the sovereignty of the individual states, that being states' rights or the states surrendering their rights to a central government? To rephrase that, the issue to be decided by that war was who was on top, a central government or the states; who serves who?

Barbara Fields, an historian, said in the series, "The Civil War" by Ken Burns, that before the war our country referred to itself as “The United States are” and after the war it became “The United States is”. To me, that implies a change from consensus to a single controlled unit outside of consensus.

Betty and I are now landscaping our new farm house. This week I intend to erect a single 30 foot flagpole flying both the US flag and the Forrest Confederate flag. I inventoried both flags a few months ago and now I can raise them.
