Before we begin please watch the 8 minutes of Carlson’s interview with Catherine Fitts on the future of Colleges. See: (58:26) The Real Reason American Universities Are Failing.

I got my first Bachelors degree (Accounting) in 1976 after finishing the last two years of classes being completed in night school over five years, one class at a time. I was the family’s only bread-winner.

I paid all costs in cash from my work, except the last class I had to borrowed $600 from the bank for it.

I have nine siblings and was always the cheerleader for Nephews and Nieces to go to college. I coached them, shared the short cuts and filled out Government loan forms for them. But then around the year 2000 I reconsidered getting them into all that debt. I began to see it as a trap; something to be feared.

The Colleges pushed Student Loans on all comers and with the Federal Government involved, the loan amounts were only limited by the height of the sky. One could get apartment rent, a car, computers and phones a well as most living expenses. At the same time, college costs went through the roof. It was a tag-team trap.

I met a 60 year old gent with his recent Doctorate degree in Management with a $150,000 loan balance. He had to drive two hours each way to teach a Jr. College class out of state as an adjunct instructor. He admitted he would die before ever paying off that loan. Now keep in mind that Federal College Loans cannot be escaped through bankruptcy.

Many lawyers graduate with a $250,000 loan debt. In the last year in law school they discover the Constitution is mostly a sham and they serve the Queen of England. But being in that much debt they must continue on with the sham.

Instead of going cold turkey on college, I began to look for cheaper ways of getting education in fields that do not require state certification (a college degree), such as sales, marketing, business, accounting, etc. These paths can be self taught.

I became a CPA which required the College degree. After fours years working in that field I realized it was too boring for me; I wanted to make business decisions, not just record them. So I got a two year degree as a Paralegal. Then I went after a Masters in Computer Science.

By the way, the University had a paralegal degree offered. I went back to Jr. College to get my Paralegal degree - they required 4 times the number of Law classes as the University did and it was at half the tuition.

After consideration, I read the accounting books and did not really need the teachers. After consideration, I read the Computer Science books and did not really need the teachers. After consideration, I read the Law books but needed the teachers to stretch my mind.

What I learned is there are many professions that a self starter can get for free and in half the time.

I am reminded of the bar-room scene in Good Will Hunting when he was discussing college subjects with a student from a big college, with Will being a janitor.

Because I strongly feel that many MBA trained persons in Business including startups, running and managing will be needed when Globalism craters, this is a website I created a few years ago.

A person with no college background can complete it in about four months for free tuition, free YouTube seminars and about $200 in used books. So “Yes”, it can be done.

I have also designed an intentional cooperative community CoopVillages.us in which the community will educate members at the community’s expense. This is in hope that most, but not all, will remain in the community after education. It is a gamble that the community will bear.
