Jim’s Daily Rant – Tribal Leadership and Our Future Synergy.

Monday I read the book Tribal Leadership – Leveraging Natural Groups To Build A Thriving Organization.

It is based on studies of corporations with 50 to 150 employees. They were studied as a collection of four social groups. They were segregated by common language usage.

Allow me to recap it for you. People were sorted by certain words used over and over by them, IE.  Life Sucks, I, We, and Learn(ing).

The lower Group I commonly repeated “Life Sucks”.

Group II were concerned with "I am Learning a better life".

Group III focused on “I am great”.

Group IV. At the top, focused on “We are a great team.”

I share this now because I realized we are going through the chaos of changing and evolving to a new reality. Allow me to share my vision of what we are leaving and where we are heading.

Leaving:

In my lifetime our middle class was above the “Life Sucks” group and somewhere in the “I am great” group. Except that group was mostly held back from the “We are Great” because the Elite were attacking the money fueling the classes the past 50 years eroding them.

Look at it this way. Before WWII, one stayed in his hometown and networked with others for problem solving – extended family. This is a natural stepping stone to Group IV leadership and thinking.

But we were trained to move away to Metropolis which isolated us from family and community. With the exception of a spouse, were were always stuck in the highest group available, the two of you being a “We” of “I Am Greats”. Most were strangers in a sea of strangers and never learned how to network properly. The “We’s” of Group IV learned how to delegate, surround themselves with superb “I Am Greats” that could do what an individual leader could not do. They together became powerful teams of “We Are Greats”.

Heading to:

I see the opening shot on a racked pool table about to be broken wide open. Some of us will stay behind the Evolution we are in now and choose to continue to play by the old system.

Others of us will choose to immediately evolve into the “We Are Great” group creating large extended family, symbiotic relationships, large partnerships, surrounded by powerful team players. They will be running on Synergy,

Synergy:

Synergy refers to the concept that the combined effect of two or more entities is greater than the sum of their individual effects, often described as "the whole being greater than the sum of its parts". Source
