Yesterday I was reminded of when I was tricked into becoming a Scoutmaster at 24. I knew nothing about Scouting and had to learn fast. The first thing I learned is he never really dealt with the boys except the last two minutes of the meeting. The troop was run by senior boys.

The exception to that rule was he dealt with older leaders in coaching them to lead. They had planned to teach Tracking in the Field the upcoming month. None knew anything about it so I quickly read a book. What I learned amazed me.

A tracker spends very little time looking at the tracks near him. Once he finds them he looks in the direction they are heading to see where the prey is going. He then rushes to that point. It might be a water hole or a small animal trail through the underbrush. But by rushing he can then reconnect with the tracks and eventually catch up with the prey.

When a rumor got out that Mark Twain had died, news journalists rushed to his home for details. He was quoted as saying “Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.”

I have stopped posting articles about eminent war because I don’t believe them. Let’s do some field tracking, shall we?

If we believe that Russia, China and the US have carved up the planet into three sections of economic control, doesn’t that tell us where they are heading?

Do you really think Russia will fight to control Cuba or the US will fight to save Taiwan? Wouldn’t this agreement to divide the world explain Trump pulling us out of NATO and going after Venezuela, Canada and Greenland?

Why risk global nuclear war if you just made the best deal in centuries to prevent war? Each party (supposed prey) is anxious to get to its own new watering hole before Friday gets here. . . Who's got time for war?

Those war rumors are greatly exaggerated.
