Jim’s Daily Rant. Moving Forward From Hurricane Isaias To The Real Chaos.
Today is October 16, 2026, and we just got power on after the hurricane hit us. Yesterday afternoon we got power back after six days without it.
Four days before it hit us I told Betty we were a target and would be without power for “about a week or two”. She has learned that when I warn her it is usually correct. She is seen as the family hobby farm Matriarch. Her two sons and nephew said she was taking things too seriously when she had most preparations done two days prior to the storm hitting. This included testing the generators and putting them in position.
We ended up on the safer side of the landfall but a freak “wind blast” 116 MPH hit our county pretty bad. Without proper perorations we would have lost $3,000 in frozen meats.

Although we have been Preppers for a long time, today I realize we might need to do a little more prepping.
Last month I gave away our three 30 degree sleeping bags to 11 year olds I sponsored to join Scouting America. I still respect the leadership training it has to offer them.
I have a strong intuition feeling that when our country finally hits the real Chaos Period, some of it may be in the winter months. Therefore, this Rant in meant for my Florida friends where we are unfamiliar for long real cold life without electrical power.
Today I will admit to my wife I screwed up in gifting our cold sleeping gear. I hope she will purchase three or four 30 Degree bags at $40 each. Some can be zipped together (or opened and duct taped) to lay on a bed. Better still, purchase 4 with 2 on top and 2 below. If you wrap a blanket around the bag it now becomes 20 degree protection.
We are still experiencing strange weather this year and the NW Florida panhandle is expected to get Yankee cold this year.

Most folks with large Master Bathrooms can hang a blanket over the bedroom door, shut off the air vents, and live warmly in their bungalow. We have a Little Buddy Heater with a hose adopter to a 10 gallon Propane tank. We also have a small CO2 alarm in the event we get addicted.
A couple table chairs and TV trays are better than being miserable.
PS. The propane is a lot cheaper in bulk rather than the cute little green cans.
