Jim’s Daily Rant. Immediate Political Speeches Needed.
The Mission Statement Fad:
“At one time, early in my life, I had a very brief stint with a manufacturing company that was known for shoddy work. Covering one huge wall of our manufacturing plant was a sign that said, “We Care!”. The workers commented on that sign every day… and not in a nice way.
In the 1980s, we went through a period where every company had to have a mission statement. I’m not sure why or how the fad got started, but it produced a lot of inane statements that got a lot of chuckles. Here is a fun read on the subject.
One of the things that makes a mission statement difficult to use to any effect is that it is not clear what we are trying to accomplish with it. There are a lot of different words that people use almost interchangeably when they’re talking about this kind of thing —mission, vision, core values, core principles, statement of purpose, etc. These all have slightly different meanings and can create some confusion right at the start.” Source
The fad was a blast. Fifteen people took off from work and partied for the company. They went into the meeting room with a moderator and a White Board. They were asked to tell one word or phrase that describes their company, such as “Best Product”.
When they had about 40, they voted for the best half. Then they tried to make a 16 word sentence that describes to the universe why they were in business. When they succeeded the boss was happy and they went home early because their task was done. They were proud of that sentence that said not a damn thing, but now they were keeping pace with all the other companies. It was a fun day.
That mini-vacation fad went on for a couple of years until Pepsi Cola ruined it for everybody. They also ended the annual updating vacation required to keep it current.
Just like that, Pepsi, the party poopers, ended the fad within a month of announcing theirs. The whole party scene blew up; no need in trying to improve any more, as now you couldn’t. Their 16 word Mission Statement was so amazing that the next morning all Pepsi employees were immediately subject to lay-offs if they could not recite it on demand, word for word, without an error. Not one of their 318,000 employees ever failed it.

So here we are today going into the 2026 Mid-Term elections. We will be blasted by every politician wanna-bees’ 16 point political platform created from a more complex Mission-Statement vacation. But I’m sure they will be using real blenders at their affairs.
"Moving Forward . . . . Maximizing . . . Better Boads . . . . Pulling together . . . Bla Bla. . . ."
Being that this may be a special election because we may be, or feeling the real possibility that we are to be, free of our Elite thousand year old Slave Masters that have sheared the hell outta us, maybe, just maybe . . . . . . one politician has the guts to simply say their platform is to “Lead us into a better world than the horror we just escaped from, doing it together, with love and dignity for all.”
PS. In case you forgot it, this is Pepsi’s full Mission Statement: “Kill Coke.”
