I was in the last bunch of teens to register for the draft - still have my card.  Luckily the Vietnam conflict concluded so my card never got punched.  Nixon ended the gold standard.  China pried open for international trade.  Credit Cards.  Watergate.  Kissinger.  Iran hostage crisis.  Just around the corner in the 80s: The Space Shuttle, Raygun, Star Warz, 1987 crash, IBM PCs, Microsoft, Internet...

Too young at the time to understand the world but those days were the seeds and roots of daily life today.  Still don't understand it all but this video helps connect the 70s to current events today:
