Jim’s Daily Rant. Montezuma’s Revenge.
Updated: Apr 4
Defined as: Diarrhea illness that hits all travelers new to South America.
Source of the Term: In the 1400s, the Vatican, controller of the Catholic Church, had a problem.
The Continent of America was discovered and believed to be wealthy with gold.
Countries were ready to go to war with each other to claim the lands for themselves. The Vatican drew a line and divided it up. In the end, the English took North America and the Spanish took South America. They were free to kill and plunder to their hearts delight. The Church had them allow Jesuit Priests to go on their campaigns to save the local residents for Christianity.
Around 1519 the Spanish conqueror Cortez approached [king] Montezuma and his Aztec people. The Priest gave the people one day to become Catholic. They refused and were immediately executed out of existence.
Today we have the gall to associate his name with the screaming shits rather the the evil done by the “civilized world”.
